With the four duets, the mature Bach goes back almost twenty years to the time of his 'two part inventions' with their enchanting synthesis of inspiration, joy of playing and contrapuntal perfection. But he even goes beyond the Inventions. the duets are of more depth, longer, even more elaborate as regards contrapuntal techniques, and again and again they surprise the listener with reminiscences of the sensitive style.
