This is a song written by John Weldon in 1707, who was a student of Henry Purcell. It was originally intended to be sung in the play Measure for Measure.

This is a rearrangement of the continuo from a version of this song done in 1925. The vocal line and bassline are Weldon's with the keyboard part being only one solution out of many.
