Edition Breitkopf.Karg-Elert, the harmonium specialist during his lifetime, is being hailed by an ever growing group of fans as a true alternative to Max Reger, and not only because he followed in Reger's footsteps as his successor in Leipzig.
Early modern; Late-romantic. Score. 24 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 8584. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-8584).ISBN 9790004178706. 9 x 12 inches.
His style, repeatedly described as extraordinarily colorful, combines both traditional and forward-looking tendencies. Opus 142 mirrors the entire range of his versatility: "Stimmen der Nacht" evokes Debussy's musical universe, "Romantisch" seems to have been inspired by Johannes Brahms, and in "Valse mignonne" he conjures up - to quote Wolfgang Stockmeier - "a Blue Angel ambience, as a master of the grotesque and an ironic critic of the 1920s."
