The traditional musical element that uses both these intervals is the octotonic or diminished scale. So, this material figures prominently in the first section, accompanied by alternating major and minor sevenths. The piece uses mirrored and symmetrical passages in 7ths next, followed by the opposite smaller intervals. Rolled mirrored clusters, symmetrical open chords, every possibility is explored here, each aspect showing its own identity.
