It is considered as proven that the Flute Sonata in B minor BWV 1030 is based on a work in G minor. But for what medium did Bach write the original version? Thanks to his profound knowledge, Klaus Hofmann now advances the theory that the violin was the solo instrument. Marshaling up convincing arguments, he also makes a credible case for the legitimacy of the designation harpsichord in the principal source. Since the performance-practical reconstruction was a logical consequence of this thesis, the plausibly newly won Sonata BWV 1030A now provides a welcome supplement to the six well-known Violin Sonatas BWV 1014-1019. ,,Very thorough research has gone into the reconstruction from a fragment - one that is more valid than usual. A very fine publication giving violinists the opportunity to play and enjoy this magnificent work. (Stringendo).
