Composed by Felipe Salles. Felipe Salles. Published by Walrus Music Publishing (WA.52355).This is a Brazilian jazz piece for big band that combines jazz with Frevo. Frevo is a rhythm from Northeast Brazil, normally played during the carnival. Frevo is played at a medium to fast tempo, often with linear melody. In this piece the melody is challenged by angularity and counterpoint, and the frevo groove is reshaped by odd meters. Jazz harmony and improvisation are also incorporated in the structure of this piece featuring the tenor and soprano saxophones, and it can be expanded to have piano, bass and guitar solos. Arranged for the standard big band, optional parts for vibraphone and flute are also available but not necessary. Instrumentation: 2 altos, 2 tenors, baritone sax, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, guitar, piano, bass, drums. The highest note on the trumpet is a concert D above the staff. Difficult.
