The English hymn known as 'All Through the Night' was
originally a Welsh folksong of the the same title but,
obviously... in Welsh : 'Ar Hyd y Nos'. The tune was
first notated as early as the 18th century, in a
publication called 'Musical and Poetical Relics of the
Welsh Bards' by Edward Jones. The Welsh lyrics were
written by John Ceiriog Hughes. An early English
translation was completed by Thomas Oliphant in 1862.
As is to be expected the song is popular with
