The original melody and lyrics were written by Episcopal deacon, John H. Hopkins, Jr, for a Christmas pageant enacted by the General Theological Seminary in New York City in 1857. What makes this arrangement unique is its use of Arabian scales and the minor and major pentatonic scales, which are closely associated with music of the Orient. These were introduced to highlight the historic origin and meaning of this carol.

Its just awesome

I simply love this arrangement of this Christmas Carol. It sounds incredible, especially with that Oriental influence!

Oriental, virtuosic, astounding!

Jarrod made everything wright with this one. If you listen to his recording, you will hear the oriental mood through the piece, because of the use of hungarian minor. It makes it so special. Such a gift and passion. Unfortunately EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. 1. Many octave passages and 2. Complex note vs note rhythms. Definately his hardest christmas arrangement in my opinion. Even after several month Im struggling at some parts. A M A Z I N G
